Agile (Project-)Management: Hype or is there more to it than that?

The term agile (project) management is currently on everyone’s lips, and this year it is more and more noticeable. Many would like to be agile with their businesses but may have no idea what it really means. There is much more to the little word agile than a method, it is a holistic way of thinking.

Before you decide for yourself to become agile, it is essential to get a detailed picture of the big picture. Another possibility for you would be having professionals in the field at your side to support you on your way into your new world of agile.

Why is this relevant?
Becoming clear about the possibilities and risks in advance, which are associated with the implementation of agile, the more confidently you will be when it comes to the adoption or implementation.

Agile seeks to change incrementally. Most of the time it is advisable to incorporate agile project management methods into the existing corporate culture as a first step. The advantage is that just a sub-area is affected and not immediately the entire organization.
As with all other intentions, it is important to consider where and in what spectrum to start and how the path to the goal should look like.

To implement agile (project) management, the agile manifesto and the principles must be consistent for you. You should feel like you have sworn an oath on it. It must be clear where the team currently stands and what it takes to convert the company to agile.

Clear advantages of agile (project) management:

  • Early fulfillment of customer requirements
  • Adaptability
  • Transparency towards all those involved during the entire project
  • Flexibility

Summarized it can be said that agile (project) management is not a hype because everything which has to do with agile has been with us since the middle of the last century (e.g. agile manufacturing). Well-thought-out and implemented, it is a powerful toolset to further develop projects and organizations, transfer responsibility to employees and satisfy customers at an early stage but also at regular intervals.

The inner stance on agile ideas and the severe discipline during the implementation are the inevitable basis for success.
